LYDIA AGYEN FRIMPONG || FOUNDER/CEO

Am Lydia Agyen Frimpong, a nurse, who lives in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA with my husband and 5 children. I was born in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, Ghana, West Africa on September 10th, 1973 by Mr. John Kwaku Agyen (Deceased) and Elizabeth Yaa Boamah Agyen. I did my primary, secondary and Teacher education in Ghana. I taught 5th grade at the one of the remotest villages in the Ashanti Region where there was no running water and electricity for a year after completion of Teacher College. I had my 1 to 5 secondary education at Yaa Asantewaa Girls secondary school, sixth form at Kumasi Academy School and teacher education at St. Louis Training College all in Kumasi. On June 2nd, 1998, I came to America. I lived in the Bronx, New York where I became a home health aide, loved taking care of my clients, then moved to Worcester, Massachusetts, in October, 1999 where I became a Certified Nursing Assistant. I eventually became a nurse in 2006 till date. I've lived with diabetes for 20 years, my 14 year old son and my mom both have diabetes. As a nurse, I come across different people with different types of diseases which about 95% of my patients live with diabetes. I do a lot of teachings to my diabetic patients which has impacted their lives. One day when I was at work during my break time, remembered my mom had told me that a couple of her cousins, and some other members of the extended family who had passed away, died from complications from diabetes. I became sad,and thinking of what to do, I had this thought and decided to impact my knowledge and experiences in diabetes into the diabetic community in Ghana, to create awareness and support, thus the formation of Frankel Foundation For Diabetics in honor of my son Frank Tawiah Kusi Jr and my mom Elizabeth Yaa Boamah.
